First subtract 8 from both sides
leaving you with x/2 = -20
Then multiply both sides by two to get rid of the denominator
which leaves you with x = -40

So you have to isolate x.
First, move the 8 over, so it looks like: x/2=-12-8
Then to get rid of the 2 on the left hand side, you go:
x=-12-8 x2
x=-20x2
x=-40.  I think.
